Men’s Wearhouse has officially expanded its “Made in USA” initiative by launching a new ready-to-wear line called American Bespoke. Designed in collaboration with renowned menswear designer Joseph Abboud, the collection is manufactured at Tailored Brands’ New Bedford, Massachusetts factory.
The new collection features a patriotic touch, with jackets including a removable ribbon inspired by the American flag. Full suits in the collection start at $599, while separates such as jackets and trousers are priced from $170, making the range accessible to a wide audience looking for American-made formalwear.
According to company leadership, the idea behind expanding the “Made in USA” program was set in motion before the latest discussions around tariffs and global trade tensions. John Tighe, President of Tailored Brands, emphasized that the decision to refocus on American manufacturing was part of a long-term strategy, independent of shifting trade policies.
“We’ve been making suits in America well before this tariff discussion,” Tighe explained in an interview. “We believe in maintaining a strong ‘Made in America’ position, and we’re committed to telling that story.”
Although Men’s Wearhouse continues to source a portion of its inventory internationally, the American Bespoke line aims to highlight the company’s domestic capabilities and craftsmanship.
The new suits and separates have already been rolling out across various Men’s Wearhouse locations over the past few months, with a major promotional push during the first quarter of 2025.
A Shift Amid Economic Uncertainty
The launch of the American Bespoke collection comes at a time when economic uncertainty is affecting both consumer sentiment and retail strategies. According to recent reports, U.S. consumer confidence fell by 11% this month, driven largely by concerns over the ongoing global trade disputes. Inflation expectations are also at their highest levels since the early 1980s.
In this climate, initiatives like “Made in USA” campaigns are gaining attention. Other retail leaders, such as Etsy’s CEO Josh Silverman, have also encouraged shoppers to prioritize domestically produced goods as a way to navigate potential price increases tied to tariffs.
Meanwhile, U.S. retail sales still showed strength in March, with a 3.6% year-over-year increase, suggesting that consumers may be accelerating purchases in anticipation of future cost rises.
Economists, however, remain cautious. Mark Zandi, Chief Economist at Moody’s, recently warned that the odds of a recession are rising, particularly if trade disputes remain unresolved.
